You learn how to make a mill efficient. You will become proficient in the underlying principles of flour milling, how to improve machine adjustments and how to handle the mill. But this isn’t just theoretical training. You will spend two days at KSU’s fully operational Hal Ross Flour Mill, based in the Department of Grain Science and Industry. Here you learn cleaning, conditioning and milling techniques. You also have a close-up look at some of the latest milling machines and see how they work. You will learn how to improve all aspects of a mill’s performance - from intake to the finished product.
Solid working experience in a flour mill. This course is well-suited for production managers, head millers and shift millers.
Milling Academy
Carl’s primary area of expertise is flour milling. He trains all levels of milling, including onsite courses. He also conducts mill assessments. Carl completed his milling apprenticeship in 2001. He then spent eight years working in his family flour milling business before completing the Swiss School of Milling in 2009. He joined Bühler in 2011.

Michael’s primary areas of expertise are common cereals and milling solutions. He teaches our milling courses, including onsite courses. He also conducts mill assessments. Michael completed his apprenticeship in 2007 and graduated from the German Milling School in Braunschweig in 2010. He worked in the milling industry for seven years until he joined our Milling Academy team in 2017.

You are based at the IGP Institute of Kansas State University. Your classroom is situated right next door to the Hal Ross Flour Mill, so you can explore and have a close-up look at many of the latest milling machines.

The Hal Ross Flour Mill is a fully equipped flour mill. Here you can gain practical experience and use many of the latest milling machines. Come to understand how they operate in a normal industrial grain mill.
